Nature-Based Day Camps

Fun and exciting adventures await your child. Campers will discover nature and wildlife while being educated about caring for our environment. Camps take place when Pinellas County schools are on “holiday” break. See information below for ways to create amazing childhood memories. Sprouts Camp

Boyd Hill Nature Preserve Lake Maggiore Environmental Education Center
Ages: 3 to 4 (Children must be potty trained)
Dates: December 19 - 23, 2016
Time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Cost: $65

Each day our program includes a combination of nature stories, songs, games, crafts, and hikes to explore the outdoors. Our goal is to nurture a child’s curiosity, help them acquire developmentally appropriate skills, and instill an appreciation and respect for our natural world.

Young Naturalist

Boyd Hill Nature Preserve Environmental Studies Area - Oak Hall
Ages: 5 - 6
Dates: December 19 - 23, 2016
Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. • Extended Care 8 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 5 p.m.

Young Naturalist Camp focuses on nature and science topics. Exciting activities include nature hikes, games, and studies of plants and animals. Campers explore the natural world, learn to share discoveries, work together, develop their personal creativity, and have fun.

Homemade Holiday Camp

Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. • Extended Care 8 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 5 p.m.

Instructor: Amalia Fernand
Campers will make their own gifts and cards as they explore the local environment and learn about global cultural traditions. Activities include daily outdoor explorations, games, songs, stories, and slideshows that focus on the importance of our local impact at a global level.

Nature Detectives Camp

Boyd Hill Nature Preserve Environmental Studies Area – Osprey’s Roost
Ages: 7 to 11
Dates: December 19 - 23, 2016
Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. • Extended care 8 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 5 p.m.
Cost: $150 • Extended Care: $25

Instructor: George L. Heinrich
Designed for children interested in investigating wildlife tracks, bones, snake sheds, roadkills, feathers, eggs, scat, seeds, and other bioartifacts. This camp includes a blend of classroom and field sessions.

Pioneer Camp

Ages: 7 to 13
Dates: December 19 - 23, 2016

Campers experience a time when family, friendship, and character were as important as food, water, and shelter. Activities are adapted from the Association of Experiential Education to foster team building, leadership, and selfesteem.

International environmental educator, Amalia Fernand will take the campers on a tour of the world’s natural settings with songs & other activities that create a comprehensive picture of world geography.

Herpetology Camp

Campers explore the fascinating world of amphibians and reptiles with herpetologist George L. Heinrich. Through up-close encounters with a variety of animals, such as gopher tortoises, frogs, lizards, and snakes, campers learn about ecology and conservation.

Pioneer Camp
