To preserve, protect, maintain and enhance the city's parklands and recreational facilities and engage people in leisure activities that contribute to their quality of life.
Cambell Park Recreation Center has a rich history of youth activities in the South St. Petersburg area. Along with the E.H. McLin Pool, Oliver Baseball Field, Richard "Dick" Turner Baseball field, basketball courts and playground, the recreation center is the perfect place to grow up and stay active in the community. If you are looking for a great place to have your family baby shower, picnic, reunion or wedding, our banquet room with kitchen facilities or outdoor picnic shelters are a good place to start.
Campbell Park Recreation Center is named after Thomas Church Campbell. Land was donated to the City of St. Petersburg in the roaring 20's to use as a park for African-American people, whom at that time were segregated to the souhtside area of town. Mr. Campbell was a well to do businessman from Knoxville, PA., where owned a feed mill, building supply firm and was a station agent for the New York Central Railroad.
The artwork depicts teaching our youth activities. You may recognize some of our community leaders in the sculptured paintings on the walls of the center and pool.
